One Health in Egypt

Global Implementation Solutions met with Egyptian leadership to discuss the possible formation of an Egypt One Health coordinating body which will provide leadership, expertise, and service in laboratory and epidemiological science, bioterrorism preparedness, applied research, analysis of the burden of zoonotic diseases, surveillance, and outbreak response for zoonotic diseases, mitigation and policy formulation. GIS is working with a George Washington University (GWU) and SANDIA National Laboratories to establish a multi-disciplinary project aimed at establishing a National Zoonotic Unit/Network, which can work toward strengthening efforts to prevent, detect, and control zoonotic diseases.

The One Health concept is a worldwide strategy for expanding interdisciplinary collaborations and communications in all aspects of health care of humans, animals and the environment.

One Health seeks to promote, improve, and defend the health and well-being of all species by enhancing cooperation and collaboration between physicians, veterinarians, other scientific health and environmental professionals and by promoting strengths in leadership and management to achieve these goals.
